Foodbank

One of our mission partners at St. John’s is the High Green Foodbank.  We support it with prayer, donations and practical volunteer support.  The Foodbank is run by our sister church, St. Saviour’s, High Green as part of its Community Project, which exists to:

  •       provide material support for residents of High Green facing deprivation;
  •       empower local people in developing their lives; and
  •       provide opportunities for community and relationship building.

The Foodbank opened in December 2012, and was only possible because of generous donations from members of St. Saviour’s. It is run by a Management Committee responsible to St Saviour’s Church Council.

Until recently, the Foodbank operated from a flat above a shop in Greengate Lane (above the fishing tackle and pet food shop).  There folks could find used children’s clothing, household goods and other essential items at very low cost.  Sadly because of the current restrictions due to the pandemic, the shop has had to close.

We have a member of St. John’s – Nicky Wareing – who is our link with the Foodbank.  Nicky would love to hear from you if you’d like to become involved more regularly, either with donations or volunteering; you can contact her on 07962 625931.
